Hamilton Cove III

October 8, 2005
Hamilton Cove III
Aluminum Monotype on Paper
5"x7"

This print is from a sketch done this past summer while on vacation in northern Maine.

The rocks, water and sky all work very well but I am unhappy with the placement of the main group of trees. There is not enough variation in this grouping and they seem static to me.

This feels a lot like a woodcut. The quality of the line, I think, evokes this.

It also, compositionally, remindsme of Rockwell Kent.

Clarkelane, this is very funny as I was inspired to look at Rockwell Kent during my last packet period and just recieved the "Complete Prints of Rockwell Kent" via inter-library loan yesterday.

I will have a lot to say about the wonderful Mr. Kent in my 4th packet. But for this space I would like to say that I was underwhelmed by the "Complete Etchings of Rembrandt" and was blown-away by just my first look at Kents prints. I had only really seen his paintings in the past and highly recomend that everyone look at his graphic work.

It is truely astounding.

Thanks, P
