Oak Woodblock

Here is the first state of the Ray Plastic Factory woodblock. The plate printed nicely but will need some more carving before I am ready to start a color block. A furniture maker friend of mine told me that the plate is a piece of oak, a wood that I have never carved before. Cherry is till the best as the straight oak grain splinters in an odd way. The even and strong grain of the cherry tree is still the best surface for carving and printing.
