Monotype
8" x 10"
This is one of the more detailed and I think successful prints I have made in a while. There is a few flaws in the composition but the variety of plate tone and ominous feel to the factory is exactly what I was trying to achieve. I need to look at this image and think about it but it may become the focus of my next chiaroscuro print.

Phil, I hope you don't mind my frank opinion, but I don't really like the way you portray the factory. It seems like you're trying to make the viewer find it nostalgic; almost sympathetic towards what for me is a symbol of capitalism.
Interesteing Sam, I guess I did not make it dark and gloomy enough. It is a big stretch for me to put any buildings in my landscapes and this is an attempt to bring attention to places like this, as they are a permenent part of our cultural landscape. I would have more of a problem if I was putting a scenic barn or farm in a similar setting. If anything, this is a sympathic image towards the landscape that is burdened by such places. Thank you for the comment. -P
From an emotional pov the image initially makes me sigh and say, ah yes, vermont. Then, dawning on me is the image of the factory. I'm just saying that it was jarring for me as a viewer. That may or may not have been your intent, but that's how I felt.
I guess I am making some real progress as my goal is to almost lull the viewer into a pastoral setting. Then be awakened to the reality that most of these awful places are along side a river or next to a marsh. A little bit of social and political commentary has found its way into my work. I guess Goddard is having an effect on me after all. -P
