Little Machias Bay

September 19, 2006

Monotype

5"x7"

I did this print quickly at the end of the evening right before I started to clean up. There was just enough ink left on the glass that I did not want to waste so I did this in a couple of minutes. Sometimes when I do this at the end of the night I get the best results of the evening. This time around it is hard to tell if that holds true.

Moon River Ghost

September 19, 2006

Monotype

7"x5"

When I pulled the first version of Moon River there was a lot of ink left on the plate so I decided to work back into it with more ink. There are some things about this print that I like better than the first pass through the press but overall I think the first try was the best.

Moon River

September 19, 2006

Monotype

7"x5"

There is something magical happening with the large areas of dark and the way I managed to get the moon and sky to almost glow. My memory of the evening jaunt out to the river seemed so crisp when I pulled this print off the press. As if I had captured the moment with the alchemy of paper, water, ink and pressure.

Destiny Bay

September 19, 2006

Monotype

5"x7"

This one came out really nice as I achieved a nice difference in textures in the sky, rocks and water. Destiny Bay is a nature trail in Cutler, Maine and is well worth the effort to find if you are ever in northeast.

Quabbin Dream

September 19, 2006

Monotype

4"x6"

I had a new student at the printing sessions at Studio Place Arts in Barre and did this quick little print as an example of how to work the ink on the plate. This image is from a dream that I had a long time ago and is fun to continue working with.

Ray Plastic Factory

September 18, 2006

2-plate Chiaroscuro Print

5"x7"

I did a small edition of 15 of these with this color scheme. The color for the proof print is a little brighter than I wanted. This color gives the feel of dusk a little better.

Ray Plastic Factory Proof

September 11, 2006

Chiaroscuro Print

5"x7"

The color block needs to be cleaned up a bit and the color for a small edition will be a little different than what I used here for the proof with more red and less purple. With a little luck I will have a small edition of twelve done by this time next week.

My Kingdom

Winter 2005

Linoleum Blockprint on Birch Bark

4"x6"

I found a small stack of this old print and have decided to bring them with me on my practicum hike. In ten days I will set off on foot into the White Mountains of NH, hiking, hitching and camping as I go. So I grabbed four of them and will pin one up in each of my campsites in an effort to return something to my environment while I go about my camping and rest before the next days journey. A gift so to speak. I will certainly take a photograph of my campsite with the drawing in the picture and may or may not leave then at the campsite. I am not quite sure as it could be considered littering or even graffiti.

Cemetary View

September 10, 2006

Watercolor and Pencil

5"X6"

It was sunny September day in a cemetary in East hardwick, Vermont near my home. There was just a hint of color in the trees and a slight yellow tint to the grass.

No clouds this night. But a constant sound of moonlight on water rushing by.

Color Block

Summer 2006
Oak panel
5"x7"

This is the color block for the Ray Plastic Factory print. Although the old oak drawer I used for a block was difficult to carve I still managed to keep the level of detail that I wanted. With a little luck I will pull some proofs tonight.
