Taylor Farm

September 26, 2007

Charcoal Pencil

7"x7.75"

Went out for a nice walk yesterday on my lunch break and found a nice log to sit on under the shade of some trees to make this sketch. The sun made these big dark shadows in the trees. The clouds were thin and wind blown with a hint of fall colors in the landscape.

Moonrise

Monotype
7"x5"
Another end of the night quick monoprint. The marks that I made with the rough cloth are bothersome and I really should have not rushed as much as I did with this particular print.

Meadow Ghost

Monotype

8"x10"

This is a "ghost" print that I worked into after pulling the original. I like the tones and "feathery" feel to the print but the sky kinda sucks.

Late Summer Meadow

September 20, 2007
Monotype
8"x10"

I am thinking about trying this composition again as this print is not my favorite. The sky is pretty sub-par while the rest of the print there is some nice things happening.

Machias Landing

Woodblock Print
8.25"x5.5"

This is an old block that I pulled at Studio Place Arts in Barre, Vermont on an antique "Line-O-Scribe" sign machine that someone donated. A couple of weeks back I pulled a monotype on the machine and this week I tested the machine for printing my blockprints. The possibilities are huge for two-plate color prints and if I add text it seems like I could make some really interesting stuff by including my poetry or even just the title of the print. We shall see...

Labor Day

September 3, 2007
Charcoal Pencil
6.5"x7.5
I went down to the river near my house and the light was not what i wanted so I went looking for something to sketch. Took off my shoes and crossed the river into a field that I have not explored before. Found this amazing view and several others. I'll have to get over there in the next couple of weeks as crossing the soon to be cold river is the only way I can access this set of fields.

Starlight

Chiaroscuro print
5.25"x6.75"

This print is an enigma and I am unsure if it is successful or not. There are qualities to the line that I like a lot but the color block leaves me wanting something more. I am more satisfied with this print without the second block.

Little Machias

Monotype

8"x10"

At first I thought this print was executed a little quick and was sloppy, but there are some qualities that I like. Although I am unsure if I will do anything further with this image.

Summer Lake

September 1, 2007

Monotype

5"x7"

This print is a little faded as I pulled it on a strange new machine at SPA. Someone must have donated an old "Line-O-Scribe" sign machine as it was sitting on the counter when I came in to run a printmaking demonstration. Whom ever donated it has fitted it with a board to pull monotypes. So I pulled this one print and it came out okay. I doubt it has enough pressure to pull ink from an etching but it will make monotypes and probably type-high blockprints. If I had some letter press type I could make pages for a book with my mounted linoleum blocks. That would be exciting.

Two Monotypes
5"x7" and 1"x7"
I was recently invited to submit work to the 5th Annual Miniature Art Exhibit in Brazil next year. The work must be 20x20 centimeters so I decided to try a little experiment and am pleased with the results. The text plate has a different tone for some reason but I like the overall effect and I may work into this with watercolors when it has had a couple of weeks to dry.
