Four chiaroscuro prints, hand-sewn together as a hanging scroll.

This is perhaps the most successful of the hanging scrolls to date. The construction of the object is better than the earlier versions and I really enjoy the four prints in a single vertical row. When you look at it, somehow it seems like an old piece of movie film. Like it could sputter to life and animate before your eyes.

While at the in-laws I went on a little factory portrait quest in Winchendon, MA. In the past, Winchendon had a ton of toy factories, but now it is depressed with little industry left.

Plexiglas Drypoint

Pulled two new proofs of this little print and I am pleased with the Plexi-Drypoint process. I'll never get 100 prints off of one of these plates but it is fun to play around with.

Plexiglas Drypoint

Working at SPA in Barre last night I pulled a few prints off of a thin piece of plexi. Tonight I plan to work this plate again and attempt to print the plate on my small table-top Holbein press at home. I had great difficulty pulling a standard thickness of plexi on my small press and was worried that my students would have to struggle with the press. Hopefully this thinner piece of plexi will run a little easier and be just the thing for my class in the fall.

The Plexiglas drypoint is starting to grow on me and I am excited about using this technique with my students at the Community College of Vermont in St. Johnsbury.

This little print worked out a little better than the first but when I am teaching the prints are used as examples of what not to do. I also rush them a bit, squeezing in the work in between my students press time.

At SPA this weekend teaching the intro to the SPA Press class and had three students. We had a wonderful time and I managed to pull these two prints. Both were rushed and the paper was too wet for this one. The gray paper I used was not satisfying, but I think if the ink printed more black it might have been a better print.

I was at St. Michael's College for a conference and managed to walk out into this field at the end of the last day. As per usual I wrote down some notes that have been more like poetry, a byproduct of Goddard's MFAIA program. This particular batch seemed less poem-like at first but has grown on me a little bit.

White cloud, big and thin.

Stretching, moving, from left to right.

Behind Camel's Hump.

Summer heat and early haze,

blend into the new green.

A complete puzzle of beauty.

While this is not a great photograph it is a far better installation image than one I took at home. It is particularly interesting that the acrylic rod held the light from the flash, making them look bright white.
