I carved like a maniac this weekend and finished this proof. At first I printed two proofs with the clouds solid black, then decided to carve some lines into them and it helped a great deal. I will thin-out the rigging on the boat but will hopefully have the color block finished in a week or so.

Plexiglas Drypoint

In addition to carving a blockprint I decided to test my image with a Plexiglas drypoint. I used blue ink to reflect to response image that I chose from the Sullivan Museum collection. A blue china plate commemorating Dewey's victory at Manila Bay.

Copy, White-out and Sharpie

The cartoon for the blockprint has changed a lot from my original sketch. Reversing the image was my starting point, enlarged the image a bit, then I strengthened the lines before completely changing the clouds. I wanted to make them dark and ominous as the destroyer comes into the Bay of Manila before the battle of 1898.

This sketch is preparatory work for an exhibit I was juried into at the Sullivan Museum at Norwich University. They sent out an open call for VT artists to pick a piece from their permanent collection and make a response piece. I found this blue china plate commemorating Dewey's victory at Manila Bay in 1898. There is still this level of amazement that Norwich opened there collection up to interpretation as Myself and some of the other artists I know in the exhibit plan to use this opportunity to make a political statement of some kind. The exhibit opens at the end of May and runs through the summer. We shall see what I make over the next couple of weeks.

Went out for a walk near the in laws and was able to wander out on the ice to find this view. It was refreshing to return from a vacation in Florida and warm weather. To the quiet cold world of a New England Winter. Where you can still find an unspoiled view without malls, houses and billboards.

This little drawing is a copy of a painting by Salvator Rosa (Italian, 1615-1673) that I saw at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. We took our two boys to see this wonderful museum as it is one of my favorites in the country and well worth the visit.

The next day I went out to sketch the Florida landscape but found little near the condo that was of interest but I did write this little poem about my search.
