Block Drawing

May 27, 2012
sharpie on wood block
4"x5"

My drawings abstract as they move from step-to-step along my process and I rarely document when I transfer my cartoon to a block.  When on linoleum they can be a little dingy but this one looked so nice on the wood block that I had to share it.  Hope to start carving soon after I finish the one in process...

500th post!

May 21, 2012
Copy, pen and white-out
4x5"

It is hard to believe that I have posted 500 drawings, prints and paintings since I started this blog back in 2005.  This little cartoon is the base drawing for a blockprint, most likely the holiday card later this year.

Boulder Beach

May 20, 2012
Pen on paper
4.25x5.75"

Took the family to Groton State forest this Sunday and we actually went swimming in the lake.  Made this sketch in the sun while the boys played in the sand.

Accidentally left my pencils at home,
perfect day at boulder beach,
thank the Gods,
for technical pens.
Big Deer Mountain.

Spring Greens

Pencil on paper

I love my 9-year old's piano lesson.  I get to walk around this beautiful old farm and make sketches while I wait for him to be done with the lesson.

Apple tree morning,
spring greens,
birds singing all around.

Tritium Leaks

May 17, 2012
Pencil on paper
4.5x6.75"

Back in 2007-8 I had an idea at the end of my graduate studies at Goddard College about sketching VT Yankee and using the drawing as a springboard for a series of prints and paper constructions. After almost five years I used a vacation day and took a two-hour drive down to southern NH to make a 20 minute sketch.

It could not have been a more beautiful day and I actually had to hunt for a place to sketch by using Google maps and was pleased to find a nature trail along the NH side of the Connecticut River, across from the power plant. There is this contradiction of sketching in the spring-time bounty that is VT across from a symbol of what is to me, the nearsighted corporate greed that is rampant though out this country.

How many accidents do we need before it is shut down?

Made a quick sketch and poem on a family outing to New Hampshire this weekend.

Pencil on paper

Never got around to posting this little sketch and poem.

Windblown snow on frozen Caspian Lake.
Always a car,
passing by close at hand.
Yet still peaceful.
